I Know I'm From North Dakota

Have students write about how they know they are from North Dakota. This writing can take form in a poem like shown below or in narrative form.

I know I am North Dakotan because…

I know I am from North Dakota because

I know that a Special K bar has no granola.

It is filled with peanut butter and topped with a

thick layer of chocolate.

I know I am from North Dakota because

I know the best mosquito spray is sitting

on the edge of the smoke line created by a bon fire.

It stings your eyes, permeates your hair, but keeps

you bite free.

I know I am from North Dakota because

the grasslands and sunflowers run through

my blood.
